 Welcome to Georgia Shakespeare!

And we need your help
to
PLAY ON!
Join us this Monday night!

Over the past 29 years, Georgia Shakespeare has made a tremendous impact on the Atlanta community:

  • We reached over 550,000 students throughout the state through our Education Programs.

  • We employed over 2,000 artists and craftspeople in our 132 productions.

  • We entertained over 500,000 children and adults with our mainstage productions.

And we are serious about finally fixing our finances so that our 29th Season isn't our last. We must pay off $350,000 in debt and build a $400,000 operating reserve to play on and be healthy. This Monday night is a crucial step in those efforts. As we continue to have conversations with community funders, the success of our benefit on Monday night is the critical momentum we need to move forward. Our goal is to raise $50,000 through seat reservations and individual donations by the end of Monday. We have already raised $16,717!

Monday night's O For a Muse of Fire Benefit Performance is the
single best way you can help Georgia Shakespeare at this time and is guaranteed to be a rollicking good time! Reserve your seat now for $100 a person online. Tell your friends, bring a group, make it a party! Cannot attend, but still want to help? Donate $100 in place of your seat through our website. Reservations and donations of any size can also be made by calling 404.504.3407.

Important Announcement

We regret to inform the Georgia Shakespeare community that our production of Henry V has been cancelled. We invite you to read the press release for further details regarding the cancellation of this production, or visit our Frequently Asked Questions page

We are grateful to the large number of friends who have asked how they can help. We want to be very upfront with you. We do need help in two ways. The first is for a large sum to capitalize this organization so that we get out of this situation once and for all. We frankly believe that support must come from larger gifts.

However, for individuals who would like to help, our second need is to continue to operate through September while we pursue the first solution. As a part of cancelling Henry V, we also laid off more than half of our staff. We need to fund the remaining staff, whose focus will be on supporting the board in fundraising, and to pay for our regular operating expenses for the month. Also, it has always been our priority to take care of the people who make up Georgia Shakespeare and we were unable to offer any severance pay for those we laid off. We would like to do so. If you are inclined to help, we would be grateful for your assistance to help us take care of these people and to keep things moving forward for the rest of this month.

We want you to know that any help with these items will only be used for these current costs. We cannot guarantee at this point that any support will be able to go towards future productions. That is our hope, but will frankly depend on the success of our larger capitalization campaign.

You can donate by clicking on the Donate Now button in the top left hand corner of the website or at 404.504.3407. You can also help by attending O For a Muse of Fire: A Benefit for Georgia Shakespeare on Monday, September 22 at 7:30 PM. For more details on the event, click here. If you have a connection to someone who would be interested in funding a lead gift, please call Managing Director, Jennifer Bauer-Lyons at 404.504.3406.
