The Play Is The Thing

PLAY PRODUCTION RESIDENCIES

Grades 3-8

This program takes Shakespeare to the ultimate level-performance! Under the direction of a professional Georgia Shakespeare artist, students perform their own abbreviated version of one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces. Although the plays are short in length, the language is pure Shakespeare and his language will soon fly “trippingly off the tongue” of students as young as 7 years old. In addition to performing, students, parents, teachers, and members of the PTA may get in the act by working on scenery, costumes and lighting. Students learn responsibility, cooperation, memorizing, the thrill of a live performance and, of course, Shakespeare’s classic text.

Play Production Residencies addresses the following Georgia Performance standards in English/Language Arts: Conventions, Listening/Speaking/Viewing/, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Concepts of Print, Phonological Awareness, Phonics/Word Identification, Reading, Reading and Literature and Reading Across the Curriculum.
