Genuinely Georgia Shakespeare
The story of us, told by those who know us best.

Over the past 28 seasons it has been our honor to be part of many stories-- whether on stage, through our educational programing, or from our company members, these stories have created the Georgia Shakespeare family.  Over the next few weeks we are delighted to share some of those stories with you.

A New Year's Greeting
from Richard Garner

Dear Friends,

As we greet the new year this evening, we all face a choice: we can continue to glance back, observing the past with questions and attempts at making sense of it all-- or, we must look unwaveringly toward the future, full of unknowns, opportunities, and new beginnings. Regardless of what's happened in 2012, we can choose to welcome 2013 with hesitation and fear, or with fresh perspective and optimism.

Over the last few weeks, we have shared stories from a few of the people who have shaped Georgia Shakespeare over the last 27 years. One of the questions we ask those folks is, "Why Georgia Shakespeare?" For me, the answer is simple. It's you. You are the reason this organization began. You are the reason this theatre has lived and thrived. You are the reason that we are a creative haven for our Atlanta community, where everyone, from our best and brightest local artists to thousands of students in our schools can imagine and dream without limits. You are the reason that Georgia Shakespeare now looks with confidence into 2013, knowing that with the support of our family behind us, nothing can stop us from doing more, and doing better.

Tonight, as we ring in the new year, we face a challenge, and a choice. Our annual fund campaign, Viva Georgia Shakespeare, is in its final stretch toward $1 million. We have $148,748 to go before our deadline of January 31st. Tonight, let's embrace this challenge and choose to not hesitate-- but run confidently toward the finish line, and greet what new opportunities lie ahead of us.

To each and every one of you, the Georgia Shakespeare family: Happy New Year.
