Richard Garner ^

28th Season

Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director.  As a director his most recent credits include Much Ado About Nothing, The Glass Menagerie, Noises Off and the world premiere adaptation of The Odyssey: A Journey Home for Georgia Shakespeare.  Richard has also guest directed at the Alliance Theatre, Theater Emory, Gainesville Theatre Alliance, Berry College and the Springer Opera House.  As an actor, he has appeared at the Alliance Theatre and Actor’s Express.  He is the past president of the Shakespeare Theatre Association and was a 2011 finalist for the Zelda Fichandler Directing Award.  He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Theater Conference and the Flourish Award in the Arts from Kennesaw State University.  He studied at Berry College and the American Conservatory Theater.

Kristin Butler (Psyche and others)

Debut Season

Kristin Butler studies Theatre and French at Oglethorpe University. She is awed and excited to be a part of the magic of Metamorphoses as the 2013 Georgia Shakespeare Scholar. Her favorite Oglethorpe Theatre roles include Titania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Sara (Stop Kiss). She's also enjoyed interning with Théâtre du Rêve this past year. Kristin would like to extend thanks to her family and friends for their unwavering support as well as Georgia Shakespeare for this sensational opportunity. 

Carolyn Cook* (Baucis and others)

20th Season

Carolyn Cook last performed at Georgia Shakespeare as Prospera in The Tempest.  Other favorite GS roles include Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, Hermione in A Winter’s Tale, and those awful older sisters in King Lear (she’s played them both!).  Atlanta credits include Time Stands Still, Homebody/Kabul, and The Syringa Tree at Horizon Theatre and August: Osage County at the Alliance.  She is an associate artist at Georgia Shakespeare and Théâtre du Rêve.

Barrett Doyle (Phaeton and others)

Debut Season

Barrett Doyle is honored to make his Georgia Shakespeare debut in Metamorphoses.  He was a member of the 2009/10 Actor's Express Intern Company and holds a BFA from the Savannah College of Art & Design.  Atlanta credits include Seminar, 100 Saints You Should Know and Monsters with Actor's Express, Assistance, Let's Make It, The Issues Project, Bachelorette and Body Awareness with Pinch n' Ouch Theatre, where he is an artistic associate, and Tigers Be Still with Aurora Theatre.  Many thanks to Richard and the cast & crew for the opportunity to collaborate on this incredible and inspiring story.

Neal A. Ghant* (Erysichthon and others)

9th Season

Recipient of the 2005 Atlanta Journal Constitution Theatre Actor of the Year Award, Neal continues to hit stages all across the Southeast.  Regional credits include Tradin' Paint at Theatre in the Square; Antigone, Titus Andronicus, and Romeo and Juliet at Georgia Shakespeare; and Glengarry Glen Ross at Alliance Theatre.  Film and television credits include none other than the heart warming story Remember the Titans, where he played Glascoe.  He also dedicates his time to the critically acclaimed Rap band Phace Oricalz, with which he is a founding member.  Blending theatricality, break beats, and digital nuance, he and his bandmates typify the now all-inclusive sound of traditional Rap music with other less mainstream art culture. 

Ann Marie Gideon (Eurydice and others)

4th Season

Ann Marie is delighted to be spending the summer in the pool! Favorite credits with Georgia Shakespeare include Hero in Much Ado About Nothing, Cecily in Importance of Being Earnest, Brooke in Noises Off, and Bianca in Shrew: The Musical. She has also performed with the Alliance Theatre, Horizon Theatre, Pinch n' Ouch Theatre, and Springer Opera House. Ann Marie graduated with a BFA from The University of Memphis and studied at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy. Tess Malis Kincaid* (Aphrodite and others)

9th Season

Tess Malis Kincaid is happy to be back with her GS family this summer.  In past seasons here, she has appeared in Antony and Cleopatra, Titus Andronicus, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, among others. In addition to her work on Atlanta stages, she has worked at Marin Theatre in CA, NC Shakespeare Festival, and People’s Light in PA. She is a three time Suzi Bass Award recipient for her work in August: Osage County and Broke at the Alliance, and Good Boys and True at Actor’s Express.  Tess is married to actor Mark Kincaid, and they have a beautiful daughter, Barbara Rose. 

 

Joe Knezevich* (Midas and others)

15th Season

Joe was most recently seen at Georgia Shakespeare as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing.  Previous credits include The Glass Menagerie, Noises Off, The Odyssey, Shrew: the Musical, and Richard III. He has appeared at the Alliance Theatre in Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, August: Osage County, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Park Krausen* (Alcyone and others)

10th Season

Park Krausen is thrilled to be back with the Georgia Shakes family, and particularly to revisit Metamorphoses.  Besides Meta at GS, favorite roles include:  Portia in Merchant of Venice, Geraldine Barclay in What the Butler Saw, Smeraldina in The Servant of Two Masters, and Roxanne in Cyrano de Bergerac.  Park has also worked in NYC, Chicago, North Carolina, Poland, France, and Quebec. Park is a core member of Out of Hand, serves as Artistic Director of Théâtre du Rêve, and is with Stewart Talent in Atlanta.  Here’s to all of our metamorphoses.

Travis Smith* (Orpheus and others)

3rd Season

Travis has been an Atlanta based actor for 10 years. Theater credits include: The Glass Menagerie, Much Ado, Illyria (GA Shakes), Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County( Alliance) Godspell, Keeping Watch, Lost Highway, Going With Jenny (T.O.) Lenny in Of Mice and Men ( Shakespeare Tavern). Film Credits: Shotgun Stories, Ring of Fire, The Good Lie. Travis also Guest Stars as quarterback Rex Evans on USA network's “Necessary Roughness.” Big thanks to Richard Garner and my amazing family.

Clay Benning** (Sound Designer)

9th Season

Clay is currently the Resident Sound Designer for the Alliance Theatre. He was also the production sound engineer for the world premiere of The Color Purple. Clay has served as sound mixer for such acts as The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Ralph Stanley, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and David Wilcox. He is a graduate of Presbyterian College (BA), North Carolina School of the Arts (MFA) and a member of IATSE. Past Georgia Shakespeare credits include: Hamlet, Metamorphoses, Twelfth Night, A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Comedy of Errors. 

Kat Conley (Scenic Designer)

15th Season

Kat Conley has been with Georgia Shakespeare since 1999. A native of California, Kat is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. Following college, she worked as freelance designer and scenic artist in New York and Pittsburgh. Now based in Atlanta, Kat has designed scenery at the Alliance Theatre, Actor’s Express, the Center for Puppetry Arts, Theatrical Outfit, Theatre in the Square, Marin Theatre Company (CA), Theater Emory, Horizon, Aurora, and 7 Stages among others. She is the Charge Scenic Artist for the Alliance Theatre, winner of the 2007 Regional Tony Award, and has painted over 80 productions since 2000. Some favorite Georgia Shakespeare productions include Pericles, Richard III, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Antigone, and the next project on the horizon.

Chandra Owenby Hopkins (Dramaturg)

4th Season

Chandra Owenby Hopkins is honored to be back at Georgia Shakespeare. Chandra is a graduate of Brenau University, holds her M.F.A. in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Kansas. She has worked with the Richmond Triangle Players, Kansas Summer Theatre, and the Gainesville Theatre Alliance. Currently, Chandra is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she teaches courses in dramaturgy, performance studies, and theatre history. Heartfelt thanks to the GS company and especially Richard for this journey.

Margo Kuhne* (Stage Manager)

20th Season

Margo is delighted to return to Georgia Shakespeare for another season with this terrific company of artists and production personnel.  It has been her good fortune to witness joy & tragedy, wit & wisdom, hope, jealousy, ambition, damnation, redemption, love and loss played out across the GS stage for many years.  Local and regional credits include Theatrical Outfit, Theater Emory, Théâtre du Rêve, the Alliance Theatre, Virginia Stage, Actors Theatre of Louisville and Tennessee Rep.  In the off-season, Margo works on show and project management for business meetings and special events.  Here's to another dip in the Metamorphoses pool!

Liz Lee** (Lighting Designer)

21st Season

Liz Lee is excited to be at Georgia Shakespeare working with Mike Post on this production. Having designed the lighting for many productions between 1988 and 2007, two of the most memorable may be Metamorphoses and Shrew the Musical.  Based out of Atlanta, she is Producer and Resident Lighting Designer for the Center for Puppetry Arts where her most recent project has been Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat.  Other recent designs include The Whipping Man at the Alliance Theatre.

Mike Post (Lighting Designer)

14th Season

Mike is an Atlanta based designer who has been working in town for over 10 years.  He has designed lights for many theatres including Tennis at Nablus at Alliance Theatre; Cotton Patch Gospel and Driving Miss Daisy at Theatrical Outfit.  He has credits at many other theatres including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival where his work included Doctor Faustus and Always, Patsy Cline; Actor's Express for Some Men and Slasher; and the Montana Rep for A Streetcar Named Desire.  Mike has very much enjoyed his time with Georgia Shakespeare and is happy to return for the 28th season. 

Kendall Simpson (Composer)

9th Season

Kendall Simpson has designed and composed original scores for several Atlanta-area theaters including Georgia Shakespeare, Alliance Theatre, Theatre in the Square, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Horizon Theatre, Theatrical Outfit, and Theater Emory. Working in film, Simpson recently scored "The Promotion" (2011) and other independent films including the "The Etiquette Man" which has received top honors at several film festivals. Television credits include scores for Sesame Street and Elmo DVDs. Simpson's most recent work for dance is a video, disrepair, which premiered at the 2009 American Dance Festival. Other works include Papillon that was premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra with Lee Harper and Dancers. Simpson is also honored to have won three Suzi Bass awards. He is currently the music director for the Dance Program at Emory University.

Christine Turbitt (Costumes Designer)

16th Season

Christine is an Assistant Dean and the Director of Costume Studies at the NC School of the Arts.  Her clothes have been seen frequently during the past eleven seasons at Georgia Shakespeare in the Suzi Award winning production of The Merchant of Venice, The Bourgeois Gentleman, School for Scandal, The Miser, Saint Joan, The Comedy of Errors, Amadeus, Tartuffe, The School for Wives, What the Butler Saw, The Cherry Orchard, Twelfth Night, Metamorphoses, and Loot.  She has designed costumes for Alabama Shakespeare Festival, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, North Carolina School of the Arts, Monomoy Theatre, Triad Stage, the Actor’s Theatre of Atlanta, Southwest Virginia Ballet, and various other theatres and universities up and down the East Coast.
